Email processing

Emails are processed via Mandrill.

  1. Overview of key information about Mandrill

The Terms and conditions of use and the Privacy Policy of Mailchimp deal with the way they handle data, and their commitments in this respect.

In addition, the page on Security at Mailchimp contains a lot of key information for Mailchimp as well as Mandrill, Mandrill being an integral part of Mailchimp.

Every year, Mailchimp certifies its conformity to the Safe Harbor between Europe and the United States and between Switzerland and the United States, and this since 2007: the details are available for consultation. here.

  1. The 3 components of the Mandrill infrastructure

The Mandrill infrastructure is composed of 3 key components:

  1. Relay servers, which retrieve users' emails so that we can send them (either via API or via SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) integration),
  2. Application servers, which provide the entire process required for sending and storing data,
  3. Sending servers, which ensure the distribution of emails to the recipients' servers.

Relay servers (1) are located around the world in various regions hosted by Amazon to reduce latency and allow users to recover their data as quickly as possible.

If these servers are processing the data very minimally at that time, only to transmit it to the application servers, they may also perform other functions afterwards.

More information here on why Mandrill is using these relay servers.

Their current positions are indicated here.

The application servers (2) are also hosted via Amazon, and are located in the western region of the United States.

The sending servers (3) are also located in the United States, and are a combination of hosted servers and servers managed by the Mailchimp team for ease of use in terms of security.

c) Storage duration of email addresses

If the email has been sent, the email and its contents are kept for 30 days and then completely deleted.

If the email bounce, the email and its contents are kept for 90 days and then completely deleted.
