Each social media has its own characteristics. Thus, each content you will publish will have to be adapted to the destination social network. And that's where my article comes in to help you. Here, I give you the right dimensions, the right ratios, the right weights for your 2020 visuals for each social platform because choosing the right format is to highlight your content. In this article I will discuss the 2020 dimensions of social networks for images/photos. And for videos, it's by wherever it happens.

Because like me you may be lost between all the different informations, I gathered here the latest updates and only quote you the 2020 dimensions recommended by social networks.

The basics of web images

Let's start this article by talking about the basics that apply to all images intended for the web. Because yes, images for the web require a different treatment than those for print.

  • The dimensions are measured in pixels called px
  • A resolution of 72 DPI will be more than enough and will not make your format heavier.
  • The image formats to prioritize are JPEG and PNG, PNG will allow to have a transparent background (useful for logos, for example).
  • GIFs, animated image format is also strongly used (and appreciated)
  • The weight of an image is expressed in KB or MB, please optimize it according to the use of the image for a better loading time.
